You likely spend the majority of your waking hours at work—so shouldn’t you prioritize a positive, productive work culture? My latest article for LA Tech Watch tackles just that, starting with adjusting your attitude. How you think and act (your attitude) directly impacts your work atmosphere for better or worse. Every space has a one of a kind culture, and it reflects the values of the business. It’s how unofficial rules and standards are set, and how employees understand what’s acceptable.

If you really want to get in control of your company’s work culture, you need to know the people in the business. Take a genuine interest in your employees, colleagues, bosses, regular vendors, and so on. Seemingly little things, like celebrating an employees’ birthday, are a great way to remind everyone that you care. Everyone should be treated like an individual, no matter the company size—this is also how you can keep an eye on strengths and weaknesses.

As a manager, showing your employees that you trust they can handle the big responsibilities is critical. Micro managing can be a real killer, so if you’re not confident in your management (or just want to be better!), consider bringing on a management coach. Plus, be transparent when it comes to what your company stands for. Hire folks who share you vision and mission, and you’ll start off on a much stronger foot.
