Along with 3D printers, digital currencies, Internet of Things (IoT), mobile devices and virtual reality, freelancing was named as one of the top six digital trends for 2016 by SF Gate. These exciting trends, many of which are driven by technology advancements, are the very platforms that are fueling the growing workforce of freelancers across America — now 53 million strong.
Cited as the reasons for this growth are changes in U.S. legislation that have made it easier to create businesses that specialize in connecting freelancers with projects, the Affordable Care Act that provides access to health-care insurance to address the previous benefits gap, and a growing acceptance by corporations and interest by entrepreneurs tied to the value freelancers can offer.
The article referenced one of my company’s articles on the state of the freelance community, which lists a number of statistics about the current and future freelance work environment as well as offers advice on specific tools and platforms designed to help freelancers make their burgeoning businesses more productive and lucrative.
