We live in an era when saying thank you is, unfortunately in itself, a rarity (and often done via impersonal email). The good news is you can buck that trend and there are many better ways to send genuine thoughts of thanks. The Young Entrepreneur Council, which I’m proudly involved with, created a list of eight approaches which was re-posted on The Muse. I was asked for my input, and my best way of saying thank you is simply to start working. When I was interviewing candidates for a post, two of them went home and began working like they already had the job!

They created lists of what the job needed and began knocking them out. One of those candidates was working hard for three days before I was even notified about it. Both got the job because they proved they’d go the extra mile. Being passionate is another great example, as is sending a heartfelt, handwritten note in addition to that thank you email.

If you discussed a problem in an interview, tackle it. That shows you’re already invested. However you choose to show the person that you care, that’s a special way of going above and beyond.
