Today I was featured in Inc Magazine.
It’s ironic that in Silicon Valley there’s a “way of doing things.” Not for these entrepreneurs, and not for me. You don’t need venture capital funds to succeed (it helps, but it’s not a requirement). I also outsource, and remember when Skype and other big brands did the same.
If you want to go where nobody’s been before, you can’t stringently follow the rules. There’s a lot of blind leading the blind in California and beyond, and people will follow advice without researching the why’s for themselves. For example, creating a product business and never outsourcing are a couple of “rules” that aren’t necessarily true.
These three other entrepreneurs also broke the mold and found great success in the process:
- Chirag Kulkarni: This Boston-based entrepreneur and Insightfully founder knew that he didn’t need to relocate to be successful. He hired smart, relied on his network in Boston and was never tempted to make a geographical move just to fit in.
- Shane Hvizdzak: The founder of Helpified built a massive user base, all from his parent’s home in Pennsylvania. He believes in having a vision, tapping your talents and that you can find success no matter where you call home.
- Andrew Kucheriavy: The leader of Intechnic has made millions with a services model, which is the redheaded stepchild to many in Silicon Valley. However, this industry is what most products need to succeed—you can’t overlook it.
