He recommends making it a virtual retreat since “Retreats are about taking time out to work on a major project,” which can be tough to do when your employees are scattered all around the world. Clear a day or two off the calendar and dedicate yourself to one particular goal or project without giving up the telecommuting benefits.
Other tips include avoiding major cities or having to pass through them to make the most of your retreat time. Consider hosting a cabin getaway, and never forget to try to negotiate price (it doesn’t hurt to ask!). Focus on your goal, which might be team bonding. This can be a time to connect or re-connect with your team and colleagues, making your company stronger.
Create an intention from the start, make it known, and encourage everyone to remind each other of it. Getting back to nature can help creative juices flow, so try taking a hike. Otherwise, think about hosting a retreat in your home. Piggybacking on a conference can optimize time, too!
