My business partner, Peter Daisyme, recently wrote an article for the Chicago-Tribune about our own experience with taking a business to the next level. It’s one thing to get through the process of launching a business, but it can be an even greater task to take it to the next level as a full-fledged business.
In offering tips to others on how to take a small business to that next level of growth, he used our experience as a framework to help others as these tactics proved to be highly effective for what we were trying to achieve. The tactics include revisiting the business plan and updating it as the business changes and other factors emerge, leveraging more social media presence to broaden audience recognition, starting a blog to highlight expertise and getting a mentor to help through the growing pains.
Other tips included focusing on the basics like staying lean, hiring the right talent, and practicing good SEO. You also want to research the impact your geographical location is having on your cost structure. Stay in touch with investors because you may need to tap into additional funding during growth spurts. Lastly, simple tactics like getting good reviews can prove highly effective as more people reach out to their circle of influence for advice on products or service.
